rendered on 14′x17′ bond paper using graphite. I’m thinking of doing this as another mixed media piece, so yup, I’ll scan that or take a photo when I’m finished. project multi-tasking = awesome!

christmas break commence! will be taking this time to relax, enjoy the holidays, work (ugh) and fix my portfolio, yezzir!

anyways, shown is my final painting for painting class, and a few life drawing. the painting is more experimental than realistic, done in mixed media. it didn’t turn out the way i wanted it to, so i may work on the composition and the technique. it’s drenched in symbolism and desaturated colours, haha. the ld’s are very quick and dirty, clearly I need more work to actually improve.. it’s by far my weakest point, so yeah.. life drawing will be tripled when school starts for sure!

Earth Day Concert Poster, 8′x11′, Illustrator/Photoshop Cs3

Yet another digital media project. This was my final work of the semester, and there were a wide variety of things we could’ve done such as cd cover, dvd cover, posters, brochures etc.

I chose to do a mock concert poster for the yeah yeah yeah’s celebrating earth day (earth day is in april, concert held in july ) and I tried to incorporate simple, organic designs rather than put too much filters. I created the image in illustrator, then brought it into photoshop for the text and designs and assembled using an in-design template.

Benetton Magazine Layout, 8′x11′, In-Design Cs3

Adobe In-design cs3 has always been something I wanted to tap into. Due to my growing interest in graphic design, I was relieved and excited when we were assigned this project! anyways, we were assigned to create various magazine layouts using the afformentioned program. We were provided with the text and images, and it was up to us to assemble it all together. It was my first time using this program, so I was a bit apprehensive, but overall I’m pretty content with how everything turned out. I tried to go for a clean, minimalist look with a unified palette of colours (white and green) so the viewer would see the layouts mesh well together.

took 11 hours but well worth it. had some good feedback on it, but I feel I could still fine tune some details on the objects as well as create a shadow and a few values on the backdrop. but yeah, I rekindled my love for the flexibility of oil paint! huzzah!

edit: today is my best friend Giselle’s 24th birthday! yay for impending doom, haha. just kidding.

Today was kind of an awesome day. finished up my illustrator project in the morning, then handed in my colour and pattern work for 2d in the afternoon. needless to say, it feels good to make deadlines. I’m really quite impressed with our teacher, Malcolm Cullen. he brought with him some of his work (he’s a graphic designer/illustrator) and it blows my mind how quickly he can muster ideas and roughs and make it look so nicely rendered. damn.. I wish I was that established and decisive with the way I work nowadays.. I guess I need a specific direction? hmm?

I have been managing my time consistently and wisely lately (which is a first), and with that in mind, i’m hoping I could make more time for my portfolio pieces. I am currently working on a series of painting, sort of like my own take on the 12 signs of the zodiac. It’s less stylized, but more bold, and some actually have a sexually-suggested theme going on (ooooooh). argh, which brings me to the topic of scanners.. I need an awesome one! lexmark ain’t cuttin’ it. anyways, updates as I go along. Stay tuned!

just the finished watercolour version of Woody Allen, and beside it is a close-up progress. Nothing fancy, although I will bring in some mixed media soon to spice it up so stay tuned!

My friend Sydney and I were talking in class,  and she brought up selling some artwork this past week.  It made me contemplate on selling some prints of a few projects have done. Hope that works out! I want to market the Anna love, haha.

I had several hot press and cold press watercolour sheets given out from class. We were told to experiment and basically “go nuts” on everything. I guess I kinda took the wrong approach and actually produces images, oh no! hopefully she sees i tried to use brush strokes and different watercolour techniques (ie. wet on wet, dry brush)

Still trying to master watercolour, and maybe one of these days I will prevail, haha. oh btw! the last image is just a personal project i’m working on. Woody Allen had always been one of my favourite icons, and I fell in love the first time I saw Annie Hall! I’ll be posting more progress shots along the way, I’m still looking over my options on what to do with his portrait.

this was pretty much the only project I’ve worked and actually finished this whole entire reading week (sigh I know, it’s sad) we were given approx. 3 weeks to work on this painting, and knowing my methods are very tedious and slow, I chose to paint a starbucks coffee cup. I was aiming for a clean minimalist look, but I think it shows otherwise in the brush strokes. so far, egg tempera is pretty good to work with, but a bit sloppy and time-consuming to make.. hopefully I can work more into this piece, probably do some digital work on it when I get a chance.. and maybe.. just maybe… add some type? oh gosh. but anywho, enjoy! i’ll be posting up some life drawing soon, I hope..
